Hunkering in from the storm
Back at Base Camp, Trevor & Tashi were joined by two climbers from Sweden. This will make for some nice company for both of them as they ascend. Maria, one of the Swedish mountaineers, is a guide herself. Always nice to have some extra experience on an expedition like this. Her climbing partner is somewhat less experienced and he's back at Base Camp; they expect to connect with him tomorrow.
The team (Trevor, Tash left Advance Base Camp (ABC) for an acclimatization hike up to 6700m (21,980 ft) - that's already close to his highest climb to date (Mt. Aconcagua @ 6962m (22,841 ft). They had to hurry back to base camp because a big storm was moving in.
Trevor reported that he was "exhausted beyond words" once he got back to camp. They hunkered in and aimed to go to bed around 6pm. The storm must have raged though, because around 7pm he was awake and freezing. He climbed into his sleeping bag with 2 down jackets, 3 hot water bottles, and 2 pairs of pants, just trying to get warm! The chills were likely caused by being over-tired; they decided to take a rest day tomorrow and make plans to head up the North Col to Camp 1 on Thursday.
So what can you do to help?
Elevating Lives has raised $26,763 so far. That's a LOT of money, thanks to some very generous people. But it's not enough. It's not enough to create more beds so 2000 people aren't turned away. And it's not enough to support the YWCA's efforts to advocate for these people and to provide counselling for them and their children so they can start to heal.
